If this is your first visit to Africa, or your first tour with Safari Ventures, we would like to answer the questions that are asked most frequently. We know that if you are fully informed, you will see the distinct advantages of our tours, our superior level of service and most importantly, you will get the most out of your Safari experience.
Are your tours fully guided?
Yes. From the minute you arrive in Africa, you will be greeted by name at the airport by one of our representatives, your luggage collected, counted and loaded into a clean and comfortable vehicle, whereby you and your party will be whisked to your hotel to check-in, refresh and await the first group activity or reception that is scheduled. Our guides are selected for their excellent English and communication skills. Depending on the stage of your tour, they will have additional training in the history, culture, attractions, dining and shopping opportunities. During your Safari, the guides will be knowledgeable on the game, the animal and plant life in detail, and be able to lead you to the animal sightings that you are most interested in seeing.
Safari Ventures is extremely proud of our guides, who take a personal interest in every guest, that they might enjoy the country and region that they love so much.
Are the countries that we will be visiting safe and friendly?
Our friendly English-speaking guides and staff enjoy serving each special guest.
Yes. We offer tours only in countries that have long traditions of tourism for European and North American guests. You will feel immediately welcome in the cities, villages and resorts that you visit. Our forty years of family experience, living, working and creating jobs in Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa, have blessed us with many friends and resources so that concerns or inconveniences can be quickly and professionally addressed.
What is the best time of year to travel?
The simple answer is year-round. South Africa is situated in the Southern Hemisphere, so their cooler period is during the months of July and August, but is often compared to San Francisco in the summer. Our East Africa tours are much closer to the Equator, but the higher elevations make the weather very comfortable. April tends to be rainy in Tanzania and Kenya, so we discourage Safari tours during those four weeks – but the other eleven months are outstanding for a wide range of outdoor activities and game viewing.
Where is the best animal viewing?
Our Safari Consultants are experienced and can advise which seasons afford the best game viewing.
This is a very subjective answer. You will see large herds and predatory animals in Kenya and Tanzania. The drama of the “Circle of Life” is literally played out for you in nature’s most incredible stage. You will be thrilled at the expanse of the Serengeti or Masai Mara plains – or the unique ecosystem of the Ngorongoro Crater, which inspired the filming of Jurassic Park. The parks in East Africa are suitable for game drives during the day only.
In South Africa, you will see smaller populations of animals, but your Safari Experience will likely be in a private reserve, where evening and night game drives are possible. With our experienced trackers and guides, you will be able to get remarkably close to the animals that you admire – only in their native habitat.
Are there health concerns?
If you are planning to travel in designated malaria precaution areas, we recommend consulting with a physician. Safari Ventures supplies insect repellants throughout its tours and our guests have not been inconvenienced in any way.
We also supply bottled spring water for your pleasure in both East and South Africa, because we have found that the majority of our guests from North America and Europe demand it at home!
We can arrange for nearly every type of diet and specialize in Vegetarian meals. You will find a variety of cuisines, from international foods to local specialties. Seafood is a favorite in coastal areas, with excellent fish, lobster and prawns available. Many dishes reflect the cultural influence, and feature curries and sweetened coconut. Many people find that once they taste these dishes, they can’t wait to try them again. Chai, a sweet, spiced hot tea, is a symbol of hospitality here, and has become increasingly popular the world over.
