Victoria Falls
After breakfast, you will depart on our tour of the famous Victoria Falls. Discover how the Falls were formed and what local customs and traditions surround them. Described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800’s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘the Smoke that Thunders’ and in more modern terms as ‘the greatest known curtain of falling water’, Victoria Falls are a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe. A path along the edge of the forest provides the visitor who is prepared to brave the tremendous spray (at certain times of the year) with an unparalleled series of views of the Falls. One special vantage point is across the Knife edge bridge, where visitors can have the finest view of the Eastern Cataract and the Main Falls as well as the Boiling Pot where the river turns and heads down the Batoka Gorge. Other vantage points include the Falls Bridge and the Lookout Tree which commands a panoramic view across the Main Falls. Different times of the year will provide completely different experiences of the Falls region. Peak flood season is around March and April and the full power of the falls can be experienced in all its glory. As the floods abate the view of the falls gets better and better through the year, but at its lowest, around November and December the Falls become little rivulets running over the edge and in some places along the 1,7km width no waterfalls at all. Please note: During this time, it is recommended guests book a tour of the falls on the Zimbabwean side. Return to your hotel and the remainder of your day is at leisure. Optional activities include helicopter and microlite flights over the falls, elephant back safari, encounter with lions, craft markets and village visits, and water sports. Overnight at Avani Resort Hotel or similar on a half board basis.

Day 13

Cape Peninsula
This morning, enjoy breakfast and then depart on our Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour. We’re headed for Cape Point at the south western tip of the Cape Peninsula, and the most spectacular views in the world. The drive there is just as inspiring, passing steep mountains’, secluded coves and sweeping beaches, as well as villages and fishing communities. Our tour begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast, passing through the cosmopolitan suburb of Sea Point and Camps Bay with its glorious views of the Twelve Apostles, part of the Table Mountain range. We’ll continue to the fishing village of Hout Bay, one of Cape Town’s best-kept secrets. Here there is an option to take a short boat trip to Duiker Island (for own account & time permitting) to view the Cape Fur Seals, which inhabit the island. From here we travel to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, comprising over 17,300 acres of indigenous fauna and flora. Here we can see a variety of wildlife that includes baboons, rhebok, Cape Mountain zebra, bontebok and the elusive eland. The reserve is also one of the world’s largest breeding grounds for tortoises. Bird-watchers, too, will find many fine species to observe. The majestic coastline offers drama worthy of being called “Nature’s Greatest Show.” We’ll be able to see the union of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans (as per legend), and may even feel the brisk wind that is dubbed the “Cape Doctor” for its presumed curative powers. Following the coastline along False Bay, we’ll return to Cape Town by way of Simon’s Town, where we visit the Penguin colony at Boulders Beach, Fish Hoek fishing village and Muizenberg. Before our return, we’ll stop at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens for a short walking tour of the beautiful gardens. We return to Cape Town, passing the University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial and the Groote Schuur Hospital. Return to your hotel for your evening at leisure. Overnight at the Protea Sea Point Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 14

Cape Town and Table Mountain
Today, you will be picked up at your hotel for our Half-Day City and Table Mountain tour. Our drive to the city center takes us past famous landmarks such as the Castle of Good Hope built in 1666 by the Dutch East India Company and City Hall, a baroque building and the Grand Parade. As we follow the city’s main thoroughfare, Adderley Street, we will see St. George’s Cathedral, the Anglican Diocese of Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. We will pass the Company Gardens and the Malay Quarter, which means “Above Cape” because of its location up against the slopes of Table Mountain. In the early 18th century, thousands of slaves from Java, Ceylon and other Far Eastern regions were brought to Cape Town. After slavery was abolished, their descendants, known as the Cape Malay’s, settled here. Then proceed around Table Bay to the Milnerton area (time permitting). From here we can see Table Mountain from the same perspective as the early settlers did when they sailed into Table Bay. The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway has transported more than 20 million people to the summit of Cape Town’s most iconic destination, Table Mountain. The cableway offers a comfortable way of reaching the top of the mountain in revolving cars that afford 360° views of the surrounds during the ascent. Each cable car can carry 65 people at a time and trips run on a continuous basis – the cableway is shut down during bad weather. The trip is a smooth one as the cars run the approximately 700m length at 10m per second and the ascent and descent are roughly five minutes each. At the top, visitors will discover a series of walking paths and stunning views of the surrounding oceans and the city below. There is a self-service restaurant and deli on site. The remainder of the day is at leisure or opt for another of our tours including the Winelands or Robben Island. The island is the place where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for many years and is now a museum. Overnight at the Protea Sea Point Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.
